EPA Auditor’s meeting – 11 March 2016

Key points covered by NSW EPA at this meeting were:

  • Anthea White confirmed that Section 3.6.2 does not allow an Interim Audit Advice to constitute a Site Audit Statement or Site Audit Report
  • Erwin Benker stated that the Water Restrictions Order for Botany Sands Groundwater will soon be made under the Water Management Act prohibiting extraction of water except under certain circumstances.  This will repeal the existing order under s323 of the Water Management Act 2000
  • Alan Ly provided an overview of the resource recovery orders and exemptions.
  • Marc Salmon presented Dial Before you Dig (DBYD) outlining that it is a one stop referral services preventing contact with each utility. DBYD is an avenue for public notification
  • Graeme Batley provided an update on the Revision of the ANZECC/ARMCANZ Sediment Quality Guidelines and the Sediment Quality Assessment – A Practical Guide (2nd edition).

EPA Auditor’s Meeting – 23 October 2015

Key points covered by NSW EPA at this meeting were:

  • Antony Pedroza – presented that in his assessmentICAC covers Auditors as auditors perform the function of a public official
  • Erwin Benker – Technical note on LNAPL
    • phase separated hydrocarbons need to be removed or otherwise addressed appropriately
    • Steps need to be taken to stop release
    • Robust conceptual site model should be developed
    • recognise and manage imminent risks (including risks of exposure)
    • Need to report to EPA under s60
    • Notify appropriate authorities and emergencies if material harm caused
    • Consider potential impacts on the suitability for future uses of land

EPA Launches Waste Locate – August 2015

EPA launches initiative to ensure asbestos waste is managed lawfully
Transporters of asbestos waste and receiving facilities must now use WasteLocate to provide
information to the EPA regarding the movement in NSW of any load over 100kg of asbestos
waste, or 10m2 of asbestos sheeting. WasteLocate makes it easy for managers to comply with
reporting obligations under clause 79 of the Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste)
Regulation 2014 (Waste Regulation) and the Asbestos and Waste Tyre Guidelines.
